Obsessed by nature's mysterious movement
I focus on those ineffable moments in nature that
In the studio I paint these moments on gold and silver
The leaf reflects changing light and captures ephemeral
After more than five years painting on gold leaf,
it is still
an endlessly unfolding experiment.
The physical process begins with coating and sanding
canvas until it becomes a silky surface.
Then I smooth on
a traditional red paint,
lay the gold or silver leaf, and
coat it with layers of varnish.
Using the finest quality
I paint layer upon layer of paint and varnish
the image until it culminates in a moment of light!
